Screen turning off while watching videos on Brave... After the new update the screen turns off when watching a video on Brave.. I don't want to change my phone settings I want this issue to be fixed within the app

S23 on Android 14; Build/UP1A.231005.007
Brave 1.76.81, Chromium 134.0.6998.166
Logged in YouTube
Using experimental list
Battery unrestricted for Brave
“Keep screen on while viewing” enabled in screen timeout settings

That last option does have an effect; if the camera can see me, the screen stays on. But this is no good at night or if laying down etc.
Closing and reopening brave solves the problem for a video or two, then the issue starts again.

Is this the same issue? is there a “reload” occurring?

Same issue here, persisting for a little over a month now. Someone please find a fix!

Clearing the cache is a temp fiz

Same here.

Clearing cache, enabling experimental AdBlock rules and update them have no effect.
The damn bug is still here - very annoying, only close and restart Brave makes it go away for some time.
Brave 1.76.81, Chromium 134.0.6998.166

Android 12; Build/SKQ1.211019.001 MIUI 14

Also background play is on and autoplay off.

I thought this issue was resolved but it’s back. Why all of a sudden? It’s been fine for me for several weeks after the initial problem from sometime around Feb 2025. What’s going on?!?

Brave 1.76.81, Chromium 134.0.6998.166

I have the same issue as everyone here, I can’t watch Youtube. Sometimes, intermittently, the screen stays on for the duration of teh video but it’s an exception to the general rule (bug) .

Brave 1.76.80, Chromium 134.0.6998.118
android 14, build UTAS34.82-71-1

Funny thing is - When I use “desktop mode” to watch Youtube, the screen stays on, but the resolution is inadequate (can’t get it to really fit the screen).

Of course, when I watch YT in standard “mobile” mode 8/10 times, the screen turns off after 1 minute (this is my set timeout in the phone settings, of course, I could set 30 minutes max screen on - but that’s not the point, is it) — devs, please fix this bug!!

Updated to 1.77.95, Chromium 135.0.7049.52 on OxygenOS 14 (Android 14 with some tweaks). Still not working correctly. This is extremely disheartening and it looks it’s been over a month since anyone even commented on this. Is anybody looking into this?
I don’t use Brave so I can have the same or worse experience than in other browsers. I really hope you folks get it together and unbreak what you broke.

I’m also tired of this problem not being solved. I installed BRAVE Nightly and it’s having the same problem, it’s very frustrating.

As much as it hurts my heart, I’m going to uninstall BRAVE and install another browser with extension support, unfortunately.

EDIT: I solved the problem by installing another browser that supports extensions.

I installed uBlock Origin and an extension that allows you to turn off your phone’s screen and the video continues to play in the background.

Brave 1.77.97, Chromium 135.0.7049.84
The bug seems to me to be fixed, the screen did not turn off while video playing for a few days .

The problem remains here. I am using another browser to watch videos on YouTube.

17 april and i still have this intermittent issue.

Samsung a30s with Android 11
Brave 1.77.97, Chromium 135.0.7049.84

Even some of the videos are not playing on the page specially in mobile brave. Already tried debugging in wordpress but it’s not working.

It is not fixed yet… I am thinking to move to a browser where devs actually work, opera browser! :raising_hands:

Yet again the issue has cropped up for me. Is Brave ever going to fix this?

At least I fixed issue on Youtube. Once I play the video, I enter the setting cogwheel and turn on Ambient mode. It makes the video screen brighter and stay on until the end of the video.

The problem was solved for me with new update (Brave 1.77.97, Chromium 135.0.7049.84) Android 14, Build/ UTAS34.82-73-1

HOWEVER, now the scren WON’T TURN OFF, when a video on Youtube is finished (in fullscreen mode)

Update With new update today (Brave 1.77.100, Chromium 135.0.7049.100),
everything is working fine (the screen stays on until the video is finished and then it turns off after however you set it in Display options (Android menu).
