Samsung Dex One UI 7 breaks top bar

Description of the issue: Since the update to One UI 7, once you try to close a tab in the top bar in Samsung Dex or try to focus a different tab, nothing happens. The clicking is registered, as the highlight on the X or the tab dissapears with the click.
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Launch Brave Browser on Samsung DeX
  2. Open a tab or use an existing one
  3. Try to close it with pressing on X, or try to switch tabs with the mouse.

Expected result: Tab closes when clicking on X. Tab focuses when clicking on tab bar.

Brave Version( check About Brave): Brave 1.77.101, Chromium 135.0.7049.115

Mobile Device details: Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G EUX

Additional Information: Clicking slightly under the X closes the tab successfully, so therefore I think the button was misplaced somehow. Clicking under the tab name successfully focuses it. Opening a new tab works without issues and without the workarround.

I really have nothing to add, except that this is happening on my S22 5G in Dex.

But this also happens in Chrome!!! the same workaround of clicking just below the text works.

Speculation: the bounding box for the “titlebar area” or whatever it’s called in Android is set wrong, and it’s overlapping the tabs (as an invisible “window” or whatever Android calls objects).

This is also happening with me. It’s really awful. Cuts down my productivity. I’ve been using Ctrl+Tab to get to different tabs and Ctrl+W to close them, but it’s very tedious.

Just recieved One UI7 / Android 15 update on S21 Ultra (exynos)

  • same thing is happening in DEX now,
clicking slightly lower works for both accessing and closing tabs.
  • on the plus side i think hovering the mouse pointer over a youtube video in desktop mode interacts with the navigation bar more often and more reliably than before.

EDIT: it happens on chrome as well so not a brave exclusive thing

Just made a Brave account to keep this thread going. It appears that the new ONE UI 7 has broken most browsers on Dex. The buttons for closing and switching tabs are misplaced as it seems that the UI changes removed the standard lip on top of the tab that allowed for closing or changing the size of the app window. This then moved those controls down into the same bar that has the Brave tabs in it, thus blocking our inputs to reach the buttons (which is why you can just barely touch the bottom of the X button but not the rest). Brave will likely have to extend the Brave tabs down a bit further and push the buttons down with it to solve this issue as Samsung will almost certainly not address any issues with Dex as they have pretty much decided to leave it in its current state forever. Hopefully this is resolved soon!

Strangely enough, you can click anywhere on the new tab button and that still registers perfectly fine, so it may just be something with specifically the buttons for closing a tab and switching tabs. Wack

Is this still an active issue in 1.78?

Yes, im running 1.78.96

@A-Moniker we release an update over the weekend, 1.78.99. Can you update and let me know if the issue persists?

I checked the play store and did not see an update on either the standard Brave or Brave Nightly, I am going to try reinstalling brave either way just to see if it just wasn’t listed and let you know how it goes.

Okay, I reinstalled, and confirmed I had update 1.78.99, which play store said was released on the 9th. I can confirm this did not fix the issue.

@A-Moniker @bbqcaddy @NickiMinaj can you share a screen grab of this happening? I can open and issue and have the team investigate. Thank you!

It’ll be hard to show in an image since it looks fine but the buttons dont work, but ill do my best. unfortunately screenshotting removes my mouse, so I will draw on the image to show where i am clicking on a tab. It changes the color of the tab like its registering my click but doesnt change. It does the same thing with the x button on the tabs unless you click on the bottom few pixels of the tab or button. In a second picture ill show you how samsung changed the windows themselves by removing the bar on top of them that held your controls for closing and maximizing tabs, which likely contributed to this bug.

Just created an account for this as well. I also have the issue. Left clicking on the X to close, highlights it, but it won’t close when clicked. Middle-click to close also doesn’t work, non-responsive. Even right-clicking any tabs to select what you want to do with them feels “disabled” and non-responsive. The only way to switch and close tabs is by clicking the square with the number of tabs open on the top right to interact with them.
Versions:
Brave 1.78.99, Chromium 136.0.7103.93
Samsung DeX 4.7.17
One UI 7.0
Android 15

I’m on a Samsung S24 Ultra, running dex.

It does the same thing with the x button on the tabs unless you click on the bottom few pixels of the tab or button.

Yep! Same! Good catch!

Update from my client: Seems to work now. Top bar is suddenly visible. Perhaps Samsung did a quick patch or something? Can anyone else check?

Version:
Brave 1.78.99, Chromium 136.0.7103.93

working for me now, but i had to resize the window and remaximize it for some reason. i have seen this situation with youtube updates too, it’s like windows are stuck in an old mode and you have to mess woth them to get them to update.

Thanks all for confirming that this is now resolved.

S23 ultra, one ui 7.0, android 15, samsung dex 4.7.17, brave 1.78.102

still an issue but i’d also agree that its not brave. resizing didnt fix anything for me BUT i’ve noticed that the very bottom clickable portion of the tabs bar will allow you to switch between tabs/close them.
