Restore essential features on Brave Desktop

Hello,

I want to provide feedback regarding recent changes in Brave Desktop, which make usage frustrating:

⇾ Removal of direct links to most visited sites, which were very convenient.

⇾ Disappearance of the translation icon (former “A” button), very useful for quickly navigating foreign pages.

⇾ Appearance of unnecessary top toolbar icons,

These changes, presented as “simplifications”, actually complicate the interface for regular users. I’m sure other users would like to see these features restored.

Please consider their feedback and the option to fully customize the toolbar.

What are you referencing? If you mean on the New Tab Page, it’s still there. I’m wondering if you’re confused by the idea that some of us saw it flip to the alternate option during this last update, such as I share below:

Still is there when you visit a website in a different language.

Can you clarify more of what you’re talking about? Also, you know you can customize the toolbar icons, right?

I’m talking of the “quick links” that I could customize on the homepage according to my needs for the day or the moment. I don’t speak of the most visited sites, nor the favorite sites. The icons of these links that I had chosen remained displayed on my homepage even after closing Brave. I just had to click on the icons.
And now when I close Brave, even if I have entered the icons of my necessary sites, they disappear when I reopen Brave. Every time I have to scroll down my list of favorites to find the website I need, even though I had a very convenient shortcut on my homepage.

I want to clarify that I don’t have the same menu as the one you’re showing because my Brave browser is in French. And there’s no “hamburger” menu displayed :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:. And I have to use a translation tool to write to you. Unfortunately, it seems I can’t attach a screenshot of my menu. Brave v 1.84.132

  1. No, the “A” button no longer existed. I had to download an additional extension, “Brave Translate” (the blue and white globe :globe_with_meridians:), to have access to quick translation on foreign language websites. Otherwise, I have to right-click and select “translate” on the page, which is much slower. Furthermore, to-day I’was not very satisfied with that “Brave Translate” extension, which doesn’t work as well as what I had before with the “A” button.

  2. In the settings, I don’t have access to any “toolbar” settings!

Brave v 1.84.132

  1. If you go to brave://settings/languages and find Brave Translate is the button on?
Si vous allez à courageux://paramètres/traduction et trouvez courageux traduire Le bouton est-il allumé?

  2. If you go to brave://settings/appearance can you find Customize your toolbar
Si vous allez à courageux://paramètres/apparence pouvez-vous trouver Personnaliser votre barre d'outils

Maybe copy and paste the Brave links:
Peut-être copiez et collez les liens Brave:
brave://settings/languages
brave://settings/appearance
even if it’s the english ones because I’m not sure the translation I used made the french ones correct.
même si c’est l’anglais parce que je ne suis pas sûr que la traduction que j’ai utilisée ait rendu les françaises correctes.

Sorry if this doesn’t translate well, hope this helps!
Désolé si cela ne se traduit pas bien, j’espère que cela vous aidera !

It seems there have been some issues with Brave Translate recently as per:

Il semble qu’il y ait eu quelques problèmes avec Brave Translate récemment, selon:

Hello! And thank you for your help. I’ve just to-day figured out the icon to attach a file to my post because it does’nt look what I’m used to see on the web… I join here my screenshots, it will be more easy to understand.

This morning, oh miracle ! Opening Brave Browser, I miraculously discovered a change : a very very tiny settings icon appeared on the right side of the home screen…. I have not seen it yesterday… And by going further, from one window to another, I changed the “most visited sites” by on the left, “your favorite sites” “the ones you defined”… And without doing anything, all the sites that I had put in the previous version of Brave as “quick links” suddenly reappeared (without doing anything !). I must now check if they will be permanent when closing Brave and re-opening. This just goes to show that there really was a problem with Brave. I think that in the name of what they called “simplification” they have really complicated the settings menus and produced very annoying bugs. And they made me waste a lot of time looking for solutions.
