Problems with YouTube on Brave

Description of the issue:
Every time I watch any YouTube video at 1080p it lags the entire browser until is unresponsive for 2 minutes. The last version for brave stable still had the same issue. On brave://flags, the “Choose ANGLE graphics backend” is set to D3D11 which is good but am getting high CPU & GPU usage ranging from 80 up to 90%.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. By watching any YouTube video on Incognito Mode, Guest Profile ,a new Brave Profile

Expected result:

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Brave Stable v1.96.59 and the last version

Additional Information:
Is so painful I can’t even watch a 1440p video without lagging the very first minute of the video.
On the brave’s task manager after not watching YouTube videos for hours, I press play and instead the video that’s in the tab playing it uses Renderer as the YouTube video and the CPU peaks at 171.5 if that makes sense.
Leaking a lot

Having the same issue on Linux, just started today and version is Brave 1.96.59. Noticed it seems to be happening across chromium browsers but not firefox

Same issue began for me this AM as soon as Brave updated to v1.96.60 on Windows 10, all other sites work but for YouTube - hesitates to launch page (I launch from Subscriptions) clicking on a link does nothing for a minute or so, then the video page loads with the YT logo and hangs for a couple minutes more before choppy video playback begins. This on the backend of the previous version leaving some of us to repeatedly hit F5 to get a video started.

I am also having major issues with Brave on Youtube. Every other site works fine, but the lag on Youtube is unbearable.

I am having the same issue, I am running linux mint on a desktop and brave v1.96.60. The problem started this morning with the slowness and freezing apparently being related to high brave induced cpu load. I have tried rebooting, reinstalling brave and deactivating the installed extensions. I have included 2 screen shots, one shows the cpu load going from 100% on all cores to almost nothing when I closed brave. The other (wavy one) is what the system settles to when it is left alone (for over 10 mins) with a few utube videos open in tabs but not playing. I also have firefox installed, irrespective of the number of youtube tabs I open, I does not demonstrate this problem.

My issue started yesterday before the update to 1.96.60 and continue today. When I disable Brave Shields, it resolves most of the issues. I did report this via the Report button available in the modal window when I disabled shields on YouTube. If I have shields enabled, it takes about 15 to 30 seconds for the YouTube home page to render and then when it finally does, same amount of time to start up a video and then it lags once the video starts. Some parts of the page never fully get rendered. When I go to Chrome, no issues, it runs fine. Window 11 Pro and using YouTube Premium.

Updated my system today so brave is now at 1.96.60. The problem has gotten better but is still present, when playing a youtube video CPU spikes and browser lags for about 10 seconds at a time randomly instead of the whole time. I guess i’ll keep an eye on it for now but it is better than it was.

As an update, I turned off Ublock Origin and Ghostery on Youtube, cleared history and now everything seems fine.

the higher the CPU, the slower my internet becomes same as the browser

Just found a temporary fix.
Uncheck uBlock Filters - Quick Fixes and Experimental

^^ I just created an account to say this, thank you. Disabling “Quick fixes” fixed the lag immediately. The “Experimental” patch seems works fine.

at least I can watch 1440p content with ease.

I’ve noticed that I have 2 ublocks enabled. 1 is brave hosted, 2nd is not. I removed non brave hosted one and it works smoothly now

signed up just to say thanks! i was pulling my hair out, every linux box i used was doing it. now its smooth again. like the other person said, i didnt need to uncheck experimental, just quick fixes.

I had exactly the same problem.
