Hi!
Already since like a couple of months or so I have the problem, that the dark mode is not working properly on my Nixos machines (not sure if it is a general Linux problem). I am running the latest version of Brave, but for some reason it fails to enable the dark mode. I can fix it, if I browse to brave://flags/#enable-force-dark and set the option to enabled and restart the browser. I can even set it back to default and it keeps working. But only until I reboot the machine or if it randomly reverts to not working. I’ve experienced this with the colloid-dark theme, but also the default Breeze or other dark themes seem to be affected. The problem occurs on both of my Nixos based machines. A Brave on my Macbook Pro works just fine. I’ve attached a screenshot of the browser settings to illustrate the issue. I guess it looks like this because the font is white, as it should be in dark mode, but it fails to apply the background color.
Does anyone know the cause of or a fix for this?
There were recent seemingly Windows related problems that seem to fit timing-wise. But they don’t seem to describe my problem.
This issue on the other hand seems to describe more or less exactly what I am experiencing.
Edit: Brave also seems to be the only GTK application to be affected by this. Which makes me rather confident, that it is not a themeing problem.
Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?
-
Install Brave on Nixos (Linux?) and enable dark mode
-
Put on sunglasses and use it
-
At some point or after restarting it will show webpages and extensions in light mode
Expected result:
Dark Mode shoult stay active until changed, either in the OS or browser settings
Brave Version( check About Brave): v 1.87.191
