So I use Home Depot sight probably 1 to 5 times a week. Today I get up and go there and everything looks right until I pick or enter something in the search space. Once i click to open up another page on what I am looking for it goes to a page that says Oops!! Something went wrong. Please refresh page. I went to another search engine that I very seldom use and the Home Depot site works just fine.
I have never messed with any settings on Brave ever, so maybe they did something? Anyway I know very little computer talk so, if some one could help a Brave user for dummies guy, I would appreciate it!!!
Based on what you wrote, it sounds as if you are searching not on Home Depots search, but using a search engine?
I feel this way because you said:
I went to another search engine that I very seldom use and the Home Depot site works just fine.
Search engine or web browser? If search engine, you’re just clicking on links that haven’t had their index updated, or the page moved/was removed. If you meant browser, well, that’s a totally different thing.
In any case, let’s use the template please and fill it out. I know nothing about your Brave version, or OS/computer (maybe it’s a mobile device?), which kind of is important?
I’ll paste the template below:

So I use Brave 99.99% of the time but I do have a fire fox that I will use but very seldom. When I use Brave I get that message ( Oops!! Something went wrong. Please refresh page ) when I type in what I want to look at, at the Home Depot site. On that other one Fire Fox it works just fine, but I don’t care to use that one. I read some of the other answers to similar problems so some how I found the setting in the Brave thing and deleted cookies from the Home Depot site but that didn’t help.
I forgot to mention this is on my laptop and I am using a window lower than 10. ( if that helps )
Once again not a problem until this morning when I got up and started using Home Depot. Click or do a search for a product and all I get is Oops!! Something went wrong. Please refresh page
In fact, most web browsers these days require Windows 10.
Again please fill out the template please, and answer are you using Home Depot’s own search box, OR are you doing a Brave Search for items? You said search engine and never once clarified this, because I want to be 100% sure of what you’re saying.
Thank you so much for this template. Let me test on Windows, and on a Linux VM I have (Kubuntu, but installed officially per Brave’s site).
I was just browsing Home Depot for…ahem…toilets a few weeks ago, and felt on Edge and Chrome, it was acting super unbelievably slow. Maybe related so I’ll test for you on my side. Give me a few minutes.
WOW! I found the bug, it’s Shields, or at least a setting in Shields, but disabling and clearing cache is NOT enough to fix it once Shields is off.
I had to make this a video for devs to see the behavior, and for YOU users to see the workaround. (Also, being it didn’t actually clear the site data when I clicked it too and effectively had to Delete site data twice, not once but twice.)
(Deleting site data manually removed the cookies, so when Shields is on, somehow the cookie is being stored messed up in a way, turning shields off is simply not enough, you then need to purge that cookie out entirely or Home Depot won’t even try working again, it remains broken.)
It is not resolved, but turning off “Block Fingerprint” does resolve it.
Can confirm on Brave 1.85.111, updated everything at chrome://settings/shields/filters and chrome://components/
IF I visit Home Depot for the first time with Shields on, all updated with fingerprint protection enabled, it still results in the error mentioned.
My video shows no difference post-patch. In fact, I see the GitHub fix was 2 days ago. I was fully updated in the video just half an hour ago.
I even re-updated Brave since 1.85.111 just dropped on me, again re-updated list and components, but no dice, if I view Home Depot with Shields on, and Block Fingerprint, but have ZERO cookies regarding Home Depot (aka never visited before), it will still crash for me.
I need to find out. As seen in this video I captured, this issue is super freakin weird, but also a royal pain. I have to clear site data and relaunch brave over and over again just to actually test. Because, once a “good cookie” is saved, whatever is breaking the site ceases to break the site until cookies are cleared again.
Give me some time, dinner is coming up, I skipped lunch and haven’t drank water since 5 hours ago. Bit passed due with personal care helping people with browser issues. lol
It’s the Block Fingerprint option itself, unless there’s an option not truly off even though to me the UI says ALL of them are off?
You’re right too, it’s not counting blocked adds when fingerprinting is on, but IS when off. I didn’t even notice that. Still again, I had to do the “double delete site data” trick or it wouldn’t actually prove if fixed or not.
@fanboynz I was just testing on Brave Beta as a fresh install. Much as was said prior, it would cause issues if used everything “out of the box.” I tried making individual adjustments under fingerprinting rules and none made a difference, even with all toggled off.
If I turned off the main toggle for Block fingerprinting then things would finally load. And if I just purely cleared On-Device Site data then it would still work. However, if I purged everything via Delete Browsing Data then it would go back to not working.
I doubt you’ll want to watch, but if want to see me stumbling around and testing via Beta then can kind of see what I was trying below:
Just a wild guess, being I ran into this with a DM with @Saoiray either earlier today or yesterday, I’ve seen weird UI issues where an item is “toggled” but not actually in the right state.
Like here, Rewards was on, but I had no Rewards icon. Flipping it off and back on made it appear. I did try that with the “language” protection but that didn’t work. However, might it be that the toggle is visibly off, but it is actually “on”?
So I tried it, turned “language” blocker ON, cleared cache and cookies:
Now Home Depot works. The toggle is flipped flopped. Off is on, and on is off.
Saoiray did seemingly catch on to this in the video and is what prompted me to dig a little deeper into that specific toggle, as his video showed ALL on and it worked.
So I guess now, what’s the bug? Is the “fix” not implemented correctly, or is this a UI issue? This issue certainly made me laugh though.
EDIT: I see nothing here that would indicate a toggle behaving backwards where on is off, and off is on:
This is one of those issues I kinda am curious as to what happened. But also, were our other finger print protections “backwards” as well, or just this site and just that toggle?
logging off language fingerprinting helped with the login, so disabling one option of fingerprinting helped. That shouldn’t cause issues, could be another fingerprint option, just not sure which
I do think you fixed the issue by excluding “language”, I just don’t think that toggle is behaving the way everyone thinks it is. Unless there’s other protections than what’s actually in the list? I’d assume you’d have listed it all, but truly these screenshots are revealing something: The toggle is not behaving the way it should.
