Pressing Command + W closes multiple tabs in Brave on imac

Description of the issue: When I use “Command + W” on my imac it sometimes closes multiple tabs in Brave but it’s only supposed to close one tab at a time. This usually only closes tabs in the same window but sometimes closes tabs in another window if all tabs in the first window get closed. I am not holding Command and W keys longer than a split second when this happens.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. Open at least 2 tabs in the same window and more in additional windows if desired.

2. Press “Command” and “W" keys simultaneously but do NOT hold them longer than is necessary to close 1 tab.

  1. Observe to see if more than 1 tab closes.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!): Sometimes more than 1 tab is closed.

Expected result: Only 1 tab should close unless one is holding down command and W keys for longer than about a split second.

Reproduces how often: Occasionally.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu): macOS Monterey Version 12.7.6

Brave 1.84.132 (Official Build) (x86_64)

Chromium: 142.0.7444.60

Additional Information: I don’t know if this is a Brave issue or something else.

I’m using OS 26.1 Tahoe and not experiencing this…
I noticed that you are using
macOS Monterey 12.7.6

Which is as far as that operating system goes, but still quite old and out of date (last update was July 29, 2024), however it does still meet the minimum requirements for Brave obviously as also seen here.

I would still guess though that it’s your older operating system that’s causing the problem.

I know from experience using my old/outdated hardware before I upgraded, things would get buggy and laggy similar to what you are experiencing.

Brave is still supporting Monterey so they might have a fix for you (and so I do wish you luck in this) but also…

As I said to this user last year, using older systems (and I am more referring to your operating system, seperate from Brave here again), it’s not the greatest idea to continue using outdated systems (Monterey hasn’t been updated in well over a year). So here is some reading to consider:

Thanks for your help!

I’d happily upgrade my OS to a newer one but this late 2015 imac only allows the current OS - Monterey version 12.7.6 so this is as good as it gets. It also doesn’t allow for a memory upgrade! No more Apple computers for me unless I absolutely need one for something that I can’t do on any other device!

I’m not surprised what you said though about it likely being an old OS issue. I have the same issue in Chrome but not Firefox. Go figure.

For now I will either bookmark the tabs or just use my mouse or trackpad to close each tab. Either that or I will just remember which tabs I had open!
