Currently, when we switch a YouTube video to full-screen mode on an iPad or iPhone, it opens in the iOS/iPadOS-based full-screen media player. However, I don’t think the iOS/iPadOS full-screen player provides a good user experience.
There are three reasons why I find it inconvenient.
First, we cannot change settings such as video quality or subtitles as easily as we can with YouTube’s own player.
Second, the loading time is longer than usual when the iOS/iPadOS player is used.
Finally, we cannot see the video’s thumbnail in the same way as we can with YouTube’s own player.
These limitations of the iOS/iPadOS-based media player have been very inconvenient for me for several years.
On the other hand, when we use Safari on an iPad and request the desktop version of youtube[.]com, we can use YouTube’s own player instead.
Therefore, I would like Brave to provide an option to use YouTube’s own full-screen player instead of the iOS/iPadOS-based player when using the desktop version of YouTube on Brave for iPad.
I believe this option would provide a much better viewing experience for users who prefer YouTube’s own player, while still allowing users who prefer the iOS/iPadOS player to continue using it.
