Description of the issue:
Since v1.78.94 update I have been getting graphical glitches that appear on text elements. It does not happen in other browsers. But its not on all websites, I mostly see it on Twitch, Google, and Youtube and the main browser window.
Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
There are no steps to reproduce as it happens all the time.
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
Operating System and Brave Version:
OS: Windows 11 Home 10.0.26100 Build 26100
CPU: Intel I7-12700k
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT
Brave Version: 1.78.102 Chromium: 136.0.7103.113 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Additional Information:
I have tested it on the beta build (as of 5/15/25) and it still occurs even after full cleaning of all brave files and reinstalling. It does not happen with “Use graphics acceleration when available” set to off. All GPU drivers are up to date and Windows is on the most updated release
These are some good tips and changing the graphical backend only helped a little. I’m wondering if this is a AMD compatibility issue with their latest 25.5.1 driver release from 4/25/25. If I have time I will downgrade my drivers and see if the issue persist with the default graphical backed for brave.
Yes this does help with a slight trade off of 2-5% more cpu usage on active video tabs. I also reverted my drivers to a previous version(25.2.1 Optional) as well for more testing and the artifacts are no longer happening.
I have the same GPU and CPU. I get the glitches in Chrome, Steam, and I can’t remember if I got them on other apps. Im not a Brave user.
It started showing up like max 1 week ago or so. I am almost certain it’s caused by something that recently got updated. I remember Windows getting updated AND the Intel iGPU driver got updated as well, 5 days ago (May 15th, exactly when you made this post).
I’m having exactly the same problems. So far I’ve noticed that this only happens on Brave, and on some specific websites that Mano mentioned above. Honestly, I think the problem may be caused by a lack of compatibility of the browser settings with the latest drivers released by AMD, as I also use an RX 7700 XT lol, or maybe it’s a problem with the GPU itself that AMD doesn’t care about
I have a 7900 XT as well and exhibit the same issue. I’m on Adrenalin 25.6.1. I also had the issue on 25.4.1, and 25.5.1 as well unfortunately.
Used to use a 1080 Ti, and never ran into this. GPU works fine in other areas, but Edge, and Google Chrome also have similar pink square corruption as well whereas Firefox does not.
In fact, 1 year ago, Edge had a highly similar issue to this (but the squares were gray and semitranslucent) and that was affecting Nvidia only cards. I wonder if this is related? Afaik, the fix for Edge was applied to Chromium itself which then finally trickled down to Edge.
Also, yes, disabling hardware acceleration works, but I’m keeping it enabled for my sanity of work performance since “scrolling” immediately gets rid of the artifacts as well (simply moving the page within the browser or your mouse cursor over the garbage clears it).
In the interim, I’ll try Skia Graphite to see how that fares while keeping acceleration active.
Having the same issue currently. I also have a 7900xt, and adrenalin is on 25.6.1. Brave is also up to date. This is quite annoying when watching streams on Twitch, as the text in chat is flickering with these weird pink square artifacts. Hope this gets fixed soon, I see it’s been an issue for a while now.
I agree, this appears to be a Chromium issue as Edge is experiencing it as well (I had to try it out for a day to run into it). Ironically it used to affect Nvidia cards 3 years ago, then it was fixed. I guess it regressed to AMD cards instead.
I still feel enabling Skia Graphite has fixed it for me, but on ChatGPT, it’s the only one website where sometimes a pink square appears, but everywhere else it appears to be gone.
Are you still exhibiting the problem on the latest drivers and Brave?
At some point the issue went away for me, I think maybe late November (I have been actively updating my drivers “just in case”). I still have Graphite enabled however and never turned it off, but I did turn it off at the beginning of December to help another user troubleshoot something, and honestly never noticed a single glitch once as I did leave it off for 3 days.
Currently my 7900 XT is on driver 25.12.1. I assume you are updated as well?
(The only issue I see on 25.12.1, and I’m 99% certain is not Brave related, is a random entire black screen lasting 0.2 seconds.)
