Passwords and usernames will not save in the latest desktop build: Version 0.70.121 Chromium: 78.0.3904.70

@AltDog,
Is other information being saved? For example, are your bookmarks and other browsing data present?

Yes, history and bookmarks are being properly saved.

I have a similar problem on Linux. Passwords actually save, but I can’t view them in the autofill>passwords location. They do autofill and work, but I can’t view or delete them. I checked KDEWallet, because it seems that Brave opens and links to the wallet. There I find what seems to be an encryption token – but not the passwords. In other versions of chrome/chromium I think I have found the actual websites and passwords in the wallet. Inconvenient, if I want to look up a forgotten password or delete a specific password. Update: Actually, this is only a problem on one of two computers. Naturally, it is on the one where I wish to retrieve a password.

So upon further inspection, I realize that you’re actually not in the right directory for your profile data – that’s my bad for sure. Should have caught that sooner.

You followed the right path, except you need to be in the User library, rather than the HD. So follow the same path as you did before, but start here instead:

The path should be ian's macbook/Users/ [Your User Name]/Library/"Application Support"/BraveSoftware. This is where you’ll find the Brave-Browser folder.

So – can you check there and see if the folder is there?

Mattches,

I enclosed a screen shot; Apple won’t let me open the loader for beta. Is there a way around this? Thanks.

Ian

@AltDog,
I think this is the root of the problem right here. When you try and open the browser and see this prompt, go to System Preferences --> Security & Privacy – you should see the option to Open anyway, click that and you should be allowed access. There’s an fix for this issue in particular that will bypass this particular message in Catalina for future applications too:

Mattches,

Sorry I wasn’t clear. When I click on the disk image to load the beta software on my MAC is when I get the message not when trying to open the browser. I never got that far.

Ian

@AltDog,
Did you install the application or are you running it directly from the package file? If so, install the browser instead and launch it from the Applications folder.

Mattches,

Sorry my lack of knowledge is showing. I go to the Brave site and download ‘brave-browser-beta-dmg’ Then i click on that file and got the apple won’t let me run this call the developer message. So it is not installed.

Ian

@AltDog,
Well lets try focusing on the stable build you already have installed for now. So can you confirm that you have the Brave-Browser folder located in the proper directory as specified here:

Mattches,

I am sending a screenshot of my finder. Nothing there or even close.

@AltDog,

@AltDog,
Try the following:

  1. On your macOS, close all instances of Finder, then open a new Finder window.
  2. Now go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Go, then hold down the option button and you should see the Library option appear:
  3. Now, from this Library directory, go to Application Support --> BraveSoftware

Mattches,

Got it, enclosed screen shot.

Ian

@AltDog,
There it is! Alright on the same page. Thank you for your patience – again I know this can be arduous.
Now, in the Brave-Browser directory, go to Default and find the Login data file:

The file is an SQLite database file so you won’t be able to read it by simply opening it. You’ll have to use some 3rd party software to do this – I used an open source application online when testing, which you can find here.

Assuming you used the above link – Does the Login data file contain any records (that is, any logins)? If not, return to Brave-Browser and instead look in the Profile 1 folder, grab the Login data and check it as well.

We’re trying to see if there is any data being written at all and can’t be retrieved or if it’s not being written at all.

Mattches,

OK did what you asked. There is no Login Data file under Brave Browser but there is under Profile 1. I enclosed a screen shot of the SQL file using the utility you enclosed. Looks empty to me.

Ian

Mattches,

Any new ideas?

Ian

@AltDog,
Nothing yet – apologies for the long wait. It’s been very busy over here lately. Haven’t forgotten about you.

Update to 1.0.1 seems to brought back at least some saved passwords for me, Win64 version.
