Went into Brave’s built in Password Manager and got a prompt to install Password Manager, so did that. Now have links to this Password Manager app in task bar and desktop. Was it really required to install this Password Manager app? Can it be uninstalled without loosing passwords?

You do not need a password manager to store passwords in the browser. What password manager did you end up installing?
Also, I am using separate data folders for separate use instances of Brave. In case that matters.
Can you please share a screenshot of what you see on the brave://password-manager/settings page?
Apparently someone thought it would be a good idea to confuse the f out of everyone for the sake of having
– x2 extra system shortcuts to Brave’s Password Manager, and
– opening Brave’s Password Manager in its own window.
And then I guess there was the need to call this an App… Seriously???
I “uninstalled” this “app” and that removed the system shortcuts.
Brave’s Password Manager now appears to operate as normal within Brave – not in a separate window.
Is someone within Brave trying to make some point w’ this nonsense?
Guessing ok to delete “chrome_proxy.exe” from Brave’s app folder?
Uninstall did not remove it.
Being able to install the password manager as an app is behavior inherited upstream from Chromium and I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone actually had anyone install it in that way before. But yeah, you should good now if you’re just using the pw manager in the browser.
And no, chrome_proxy.exe is a legit helper file so I would leave it.
