I use a self hosted instance of SearXNG (a metasearch engine) as my default search within Brave. I did this by opening SearXNG in a tab and then selecting it from the ‘Inactive Shortcuts’ menu in the settings, and selecting to make it default. It works perfectly as the search engine within the omnibox on all pages. However, the search widget on new tab pages still defaults to Brave search. I accessed the new tab page specific settings, and found that the widget settings only listed ‘official’ search engines such as Brave and DuckDuckGo despite SearXNG now appearing within the main search engines list in the browser settings.
How can this issue be reproduced?
Open a tab with your custom search engine.
Select make default from the inactive shortcuts list in the search engines menu of settings.
Navigate to the new tab page cog icon, and the search tab within it.
Expected result:
It would be expected for all the search engines listed in the browser’s main search settings page to appear within the widget’s settings as well.
Thank you for the timely response. I had a feeling there was no ‘glitch’ per se, but it seems like a missed opportunity. For now I have opted to hide the widget instead of deal with the confusion there.
