I would like Brave Desktop to add a native upload assistant similar to Opera GX’s Easy Files.
When a website opens a file upload picker, Brave could first display a small browser-owned panel containing:
- The latest clipboard image
- Recently downloaded files with previews
- A “Show all files” button that opens the normal operating-system picker
The selected file should be passed through Brave’s native file-picker pipeline, so websites receive it exactly like a normal trusted file selection.
I attempted to reproduce this with a browser extension, but extensions cannot integrate with the native picker reliably. Websites using complex upload systems, such as Gemini, may ignore synthetic events or interpret them as duplicate uploads.
Privacy suggestions:
- Make the feature optional
- Process everything locally
- Allow per-site disabling
- Disable it in private windows by default
- Provide a button to clear recent items
- Respect the website’s accepted file types and multiple-file setting
This would make frequent image and document uploads significantly faster while providing better compatibility than an extension can achieve.
