Button in the top right to mute all tabs on current window (or just mute the entire window). This isn’t a feature as far as I can tell, you can mute a specific site and tab but not entire window.
You can do so by going here:
Directly: brave://settings/content/sound
Or via Settings tree:
Privacy and security > Site and shield settings > Additional content settings subheading > Sound
And Toggling option:
Don't allow sites to play sound
Features that need sound won't work
Though it does it for the entire Profile, not just the Window.
@Chief_Rolo I really do encourage you to take the time to look through all of Brave’s settings one day. Don’t take things for granted and just merely search.
You can mute all if you want via shortcut. You just have to go into Settings → System → Shortcuts and then make a shortcut for it.
This can mute all tabs, just a site, unmute, etc.
I know there are a lot of menus in settings and buttons to click, but just am saying one day when you don’t have a whole lot to do, it can be helpful to go through and learn what all exists and what they do. It can be surprising the types of things available to us or happening that we’d otherwise be unaware.
With modern technology this often becomes something of a requirement for anything we do. Many websites or apps will hide things like letting them collect and use/sell your data as part of it, for example. Or it might just be some really neat and helpful setting, like adding a shortcut to a capability that would have made your experiences much better.
This mutes all tabs with sounds, if a tab wasn’t playing sound when I mute all and later it starts making noise it won’t get muted. I want to mute the entire window so that any new tabs or older ones that weren’t making noise, don’t make noise.
@Chief_Rolo hmm, I thought I remembered it being a bit different. Guess it’s my mistake by not double checking before pointing you to it this time.
Depending on the situation of why you’re wanting this, you could potentially do what @User.1.000.000.000 mentioned. You could have two profiles running where one has sound off entirely and the other doesn’t.
As of this moment I’m not seeing anything like the request you have on Chromium. Brave tried doing one better with the keyboard shortcuts which helps.
I guess would have to see if @Mattches might be able to ask the devs to find out if the behavior of that shortcut could actually mute all tabs regardless of whether it’s loaded media. I know a person can right click individually, choose Mute Tab, and it would work that way. So not sure how difficult it would be for the keyboard command of Mute All Tabs to get the same behavior.
No problem these shortcuts are still helpful ![]()
I’d rather not have profiles since they overcomplicate things for me.
I was hoping for a simple button/shortcut to toggle window audio the same way you do each tab. As in if on, sound is allowed, if off, no sound is allowed whatsoever, exactly like tab mute but for window.
I’m sure it’s relatively easy to implement I’m just not too sure they’d bother implementing it if not too many people ask for it even if it is a really good feature
@Chief_Rolo yeah, at least I tagged Mattches who heads up browser support. He can poke around and see what they say.
What I will say is a lot of times things like this might be easier to see added if you can get momentum via Chromium. Brave still has a lot of projects in motion and not as many devs as they need. So as much as they’d like to do a lot of the requests that get made, they can’t always spare the resources. With Chromium having a lot more devs and money, upstream solutions tends to be more beneficial and likely. What they change to Chromium tends to get inherited by Brave.
