Manifest v2 killed without warning?

Lost power due to a storm and when I rebooted, all of my manifest v2 apps were disabled without any warning or option to update. Why was this done like this? I knew they were going away in Chrome which is one of the reasons I moved over to Brave, (stupidly) assuming that those changes wouldn’t be pulled down stream? What the hell?
