I lost an entire subfolder of bookmarks while managing bookmarks (deleting some, reassigning some, reassigning some to newly created folders, renaming some folders, rearranging files and folders). This was a subfolder that I intended to use indefinitely in current and future projects.:
How can this issue be reproduced?
- Not sure since I was unaware of the absence of this particular folder until I wanted to put another file in it. But, I had created it as a new subfolder today, the same day as spending hours managing my bookmarks, and eventually discovering the loss of the subfolder in question. The already existing files in my bookmarks that I had moved to this subfolder today are also not in any of the folders and particularly not in the folder I moved them from. My best guess for recreating would be to create a subfolder first.
- Then move existing files from the parent folder to the subfolder.
- Then see if the subfolder still exists. 4. I did 3. successfully, so step 4 would be to manage bookmarks for an hour or so, then check to see if this subfolder still exists.
I would expect that subfolder and the files inside are nowhere to be found, which is why I’m creating this report:
Brave Version: Brave is up to date. 1.80.124 (Official Build) (64-bit) Chromium 135.0.7204.168
Windows 10:
I looked at this closed report: Lost Bookmarks Windows 10
I was able to find a bookmark.bak file dated today around the time I noticed the missing subfolder. I have no idea what to do with this file. I opened it in the brave browser and from my perspective as someone with minimal knowledge of digital technology, it’s a bunch of text reflecting what my bookmarks were.
I was also using cut and paste to move bookmarks or reassigning them using the bookmarks icon in the browser toolbar. I only used the delete command when I wanted to delete a file or folder and this particular subfolder was not intentionally deleted.
Thanks in advance for possible solutions!
