Hi as per the title I am the latest version of Brave Browser obtained through AUR repos on Archcraft Linux (Arch Linux based).
Previous versions were fine didn’t notice an issue however today I noted the very high CPU consumption (I am using a Dell Precision 5550 laptop with an i9-10885H CPU and 64GB high speed memory). No extensions installed bare bones browser install and the playback experience in YouTube was awful very laggy like it was running on an older computer.
I then noticed the whole browsing experience is like this opening a few tabs surfing the internet CPU temps were 100 degrees C constantly and the core usage was very high comparatively I tested the same user journey from YouTube to surfing the internet on Google Chrome and Firefox without any issues temps were low cpu usage moderate how it should be.
The laptop is fitted with an nVidia Quadro T2000 with Max-Q GPU have the latest drivers they work fine Steam, Wine etc all are happy no issues.
I did try tweaking the experimental settings and not using accelerated hardware didn’t make a difference and frankly I shouldn’t be messing about in there to begin with the browser was fine a few releases back (I hadn’t used it since due to system rebuild).
Nightly build has the same issues I haven’t tried an older release that is next on the cards but it seems there are a number of us reporting this so there must be something going on?
