iPadOS 27 – Brave 1.95.104 clears previous search query, preventing it being edited

Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent I have recently encountered what appears to be a regression in Brave Browser on my iPad.

After entering a search query and executing the search, Brave now clears the search criteria from the search/address field. If I subsequently want to amend or refine the search, I have to retype the entire search query from scratch.

This was not previously the behaviour. Previously, the existing search query remained available and could be edited, which was much more convenient when refining a search.

For example, if I search for:

“best restaurants in Exeter with parking”

I may then want to change the search to:

“best restaurants in Exeter with parking for Sunday lunch”

Previously I could simply edit the existing search. With the current behaviour I have to type the complete search again.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Brave Browser on an iPad.
  2. Enter a search query containing several words.
  3. Execute the search.
  4. Return to the search/address field.
  5. Attempt to edit the previous search query.

Actual result:

The previous search query has been cleared. There is no longer any text available to edit, meaning that the complete search has to be retyped.

Expected result:

The previous search query should remain in the search/address field so that it can be edited, amended or refined before executing the new search.

Device/software:

  • Device: iPad
  • Operating system: iPadOS 27
  • Brave version: 1.95.104
  • Problem occurs: iPad
  • Problem does not occur: iPhone

Additional information:

This appears to have started following a recent Brave update. I have used Brave for some time and this was not previously an issue.

The fact that the same behaviour does not occur on my iPhone is particularly relevant and suggests that this may be specific to the iPad/iPadOS implementation.

Although this may appear to be a relatively minor interface change, it is quite frustrating when carrying out detailed searches. Being able to return to an existing search and modify it rather than having to retype the entire query is an important usability feature.

Could you please investigate whether this is an unintended regression in the iPad version of Brave and, if so, restore the previous behaviour?

Thank you. clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.

A question for Brave Support - @Mattches

I always use the Brave Search → search field … not the URL address field. And …

My Brave Search bookmark:

There, if I want to use Brave Search (Answer with AI), I DISABLE:

  • Anonymous local results
  • Discussions
  • Google fallback mixing
  • Anonymous usage metrics

Make sure that Answer with AI is ENABLED … and then I scroll up the settings page and click on the Brave lion icon … to get the Brave Search webpage. ← There, I use the Brave Search field - NOT the URL address field.

That is my routine, in order to use Brave Search with the Answer with AI feature.

@James007 I am not seeing the behavior you describe. The search query stays in the search bar when I tap it as expected. Let me check with iOS team and see if they can reproduce.

Thanks you for your response.

I have just removed Brave overnight from the IPad and re-installed it. So far, the expected behaviour has now returned and no longer disappears, when returning to the search field. This looks to be a software glitch that has rectified itself on re-installation.

Time will tell, to see if the issue re-appears or not.

Thanks. James
