Passkeys
Expected result: Instead of getting “this browser does not support passkeys” message, it should allow it. I have a new SoloKeys security key that works just fine with Google. Why not Intuit?
Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.94.117
Additional Information: I’m not super tech-savvy. Please be patient with me…
I was able to set up a Passkey on my security key to log into Google through the Brave browser. However, Intuit says the browser doesn’t support passkeys. I get the same message with Wells Fargo.
The error messages from Intuit and Wells Fargo are likely caused by website-side configuration or browser extension interference, rather than a lack of native support in the Brave browser.
Intuit Compatibility: Recent community reports confirm that Intuit (which powers QuickBooks Online) may incorrectly report that Brave does not support passkeys, even when security keys function correctly. This suggests a browser detection bug in their system rather than a technical failure of the passkey protocol itself.
Wells Fargo Configuration: Wells Fargo often forces passkeys to be stored in Google Password Manager or requires specific Android or Chrome environments. If the site detects Brave, it may block the creation flow due to strict platform authenticator requirements or WebAuthn implementation quirks.
Extension Interception: Third-party password managers (like 1Password or Bitwarden) can intercept passkey prompts. If the Brave browser’s native WebAuthn stack conflicts with these extensions, the site may fail to recognize the passkey capability.
Recommended Workarounds:
Disable Extensions: Temporarily disable password manager extensions in Brave to see if the native Windows Hello or iCloud Keychain prompts appear.
Use Alternative Browsers: For Intuit, try Chrome or Edge to bypass potential browser detection errors. For Wells Fargo, ensure you are using the official app or a supported browser like Chrome with Google Password Manager enabled.
I disabled all extensions and tried again; got the same error messages on both Intuit and Wells Fargo.
I’m trying to avoid Chrome, Safari, and Android.
Does anyone know any workarounds? I should qualify that I’m not *horribly* bad with tech. I’ve got a de-Googled Pixel running CalyxOS and a tech-savvy person who can help if suggestions are beyond my ability.
