Translate, search-by-voice, etc. all leverage the same (or similar) Speech recognition API. Quoting from the thread I linked above:

The list of websites that offer speech-to-text or dictation services based on Google’s proprietary speech recognition API is shrinking due to the rapid deployment of new AI technologies. Google’s own Gemini and, recently, Google Search voice input don’t rely on the API. ChatGPT and similar services don’t use it.

But Google Translate and many other sites still do, and for them you can use the polyfill extension here: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/speech-recognition-polyfi/doblhjbaejoemfphomdmppkaookicmdd

It works great in Brave. It supports both the old and new server backends used by Google to power the API in Chrome. Due to the somewhat unauthorized use of the servers by this extension, you may find that you need to switch the backend server if the active one doesn’t seem to be working, but the extension makes it simple to do.

Edit: Forgot to mention, in the case of Google Translate, our friends at Google may detect that your browser is not Chrome and preemptively disable the voice input button on the page. You can get around that by pasting this line of code in the dev console, but expect this to break at some point in the future: document.querySelector('span[jsmodel] button[aria-label="Translate by voice"]').disabled=false;
