Google Search page flickers and visually reloads in Brave

When using Google Search in Brave Browser, the search results appear normally for a brief moment, then the page suddenly turns black/flickers as if it reloads. After around 1–2 seconds, the exact same search results appear again. This happens consistently and is very distracting during browsing.

The issue only happens in Brave Browser. Google Chrome on the same PC does not have this issue.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open Brave Browser

  2. Go to google.com

  3. Search for anything

  4. Wait for the results page to load

  5. The page briefly displays normally, then flickers/turns black and reloads visually before showing the same results again

Expected result:
Google Search results should load normally without black flickering, visual reloads, or delayed repainting.

Ok, I see what you mean. I can’t reproduce this issue using a fresh Brave profile, nor on a configured Brave Origin profile.

I’d suggest seeing if this happens:

  • In a Brave Private Window
  • In a Brave Guest Window
  • In a fresh Brave Profile
  • In Brave Beta or Nightly

This is to help diagnose the issue.

In your current install, do you have any extensions installed?

I only have these extensions.

And yes, this issue doesn’t occur in a private window.

Can you try setting up sync (to keep your bookmarks and settings), copying the sync code, fully uninstalling Brave by checking the “Delete browser data”, and then reinstalling Brave, re-adding your sync code?
