Feedback on bloatware

I have been using Brave for a couple of years and mostly liked it.

Recently it has become unusable for me because of the bloat: Leo promotions, news, sponsored images, and other features I never asked for.

I would have been willing to pay $60 for Brave Origin if:

  • it had been communicated more transparently, instead of my discovering it only after the free browser filled up with features I wanted to remove
  • the price were simply $60, not $59.99

As it stands, I’m sorry to say the experience has gotten bad enough that I have moved to Firefox.

Hello!

We announced this across various channels earlier in the year. We apologize if these announcements were missed.

We’ve also been diligently taking feedback to improve Brave Origin. https://www.reddit.com/r/brave_browser/comments/1sn8zai/brave_origin_now_available_for_testing_in_nightly/

In addition, we’ve provided instructions for technical users who wish to remove these revenue-generating features from group policy, instead of opting for Origin.

Lastly, we’re close to regional-based pricing for users around the globe. https://x.com/brianbondy/status/2045120928393097242?s=20

Thanks again for the feedback!

Thanks for the detailed reply, I appreciate it.

I don’t doubt it was announced, but as an everyday user I don’t follow Reddit or X, and what reached me inside the browser was Leo and other promotions, never Origin.

I understand the free browser needs funding. Still, paying to remove features that weren’t there when I started using Brave feels backwards to me.
