Containers are a great addition to Brave, but right now they’re missing a key piece of functionality that Firefox has had for years: the ability to automatically open specific sites in a specific container.
Currently, every time I visit a site that should be in a container (e.g., Gmail, YouTube, work tools), I have to:
- Open a new tab in the desired container manually, or
- Right‑click the link/tab and choose “Open in this container”.
This defeats a lot of the convenience containers are supposed to provide. In Firefox with Multi-Account Containers, I can:
- Right‑click a site → “Always open this site in [container]”.
- Have bookmarks, links, and typed URLs automatically open in the assigned container.
Requested feature:
Add a setting (per site or via a global rule editor) to configure:
- “Always open
example.comin Container: Work” - “Always open
youtube.comin Container: Personal” - Optionally: “Ask me which container to use for sites with multiple accounts”
This would make Brave’s containers genuinely usable for daily multi-account and context-separated browsing, instead of a manual, error-prone workflow.
Use cases:
- Separate work and personal logins for Gmail, Drive, Notion, etc.
- Keeping shopping, social, and banking contexts isolated.
- Preventing accidental cross-contamination of cookies and tracking between contexts.
Right now, without auto-rules, many users (myself included) are forced to either:
- Stick with Firefox for this specific workflow, or
- Live with a half-baked containers implementation in Brave.
Please prioritize this. It’s a small change in UI/UX but a massive improvement in real-world usability.
