Copy Paste causing Brave to Crash

I probably noticed this a couple releases ago, but its getting REALLY annoying now. Whenever I try to paste something, even if not in Brave, Brave crashes. Copy a term I want to search from a tect book, and try to paste in to Brave. crash. Copy a line from a word document and paste it to an email in out look . Brave crashes. The only time brave doesn’t crash is if I use paste and go from the context menu.

Running Brave 1.87.190 Thanks !

Hello! Thanks for reaching out.

Do you have any recent crash logs available at brave://crashes

Are you able to provide specific steps to help us replicate the issue? Thanks!

Sorry for the delay, i was a way for a few days. At the moment, It says I do not. I will see if it generates any today.

Steps. Generally If I copy something, saw from a document, epub, website. then try to paste it (say a web address, or maybe a keyword I want to search for in the search bar) it hangs for a few seconds then closes. When i reopen it offers to restore and everything comes back up where It left off. If I happen to click paste and go about half the time it wont happen.

Finally got it to happen again.. not much in the crash logs though, at least that I could see. I copied a web address from claude and tried to past it tobrave, brave shut down.

@Lcw731 To confirm, this only happens when you use Ctrl+V to paste, right? Does it happen in private window? Are you using any extensions?

@Evan123 just wanted to point out some similar topics:

From 2024:

From 2023:

No it also happens with right click>paste. That actually how I do it most often.

Extensions (Not all active), Mostly Cybersecurity related, I have since removed a few i realized I have not used in a while.

@Lcw731 that’s a lot of extensions. If you can, please try in a private window. Then also try it in a new browser profile with no extensions installed. The key idea here is to narrow down to try to see if they might be causing this issue.

Private (incognito) just is a simpler way. It opens a session with extensions disabled and no cookies.

The secondary new browser profile just has that “fresh” profile with many settings to default and no extensions.

If you would test both and report back, it would help on identifying potential issues. Or at least in helping to rule out some things.

Set up a new profile, no extensions, First time I tried to paste into it brave crashed.

Can you test with the new profile one more time to confirm and make sure that you 1) Have your original profile window closed before you test (so only one Brave window, using the new prof. is open) and 2) perform the test using standard browsing as opposed to a Private window?
