Description of the issue:
“Clear data on exit” isn’t clearing my browsing history. Everything else seems fine, but history stays saved after I close and reopen the browser.
How can this issue be reproduced?
Go to Settings → Brave Shields & Privacy
Turn on “Clear data on exit”
Close the app completely
Reopen Brave
Check browsing history → it’s still there
Expected result:
Browsing history should be cleared automatically after exiting the app.
Brave Version (check About Brave):
Brave 1.89.135 (Chromium 147.0.7727.49)
Mobile Device details:
Google Pixel 8, Android 16
Additional Information:
Happens every time, super easy to reproduce. Tried restarting the app and device, no change.
1st, upon belief of what I have seen here at the Brave Community, some changes to mobile device settings - IF you want some, certain changes to stick - are best made when NOT USING Private Browsing Mode aka Private Browsing aka Private Windows.
2nd, contrary to what some members believe, I have learned that full restarts (ie full power off, full shut down, followed by 30 second pause, followed by startup) of mobile devices, after making changes, HELPS.
3rd, then at least with Brave Browser (iOS), and not using Private Browsing Mode, clear web data.
4th, and wait 30 seconds after closing Brave Browser. (Myself, I run through the full power off, shutdown, wait 30 seconds, then startup.)
I am not discounting, that there still are indeed > changes to Brave Browser (mobile) settings that will stick, when using Private Browsing.
I do not have an Android device, so I tried to stitch together what I sort-of-recall, works. Or did work.
Same here, iPhone 13 Pro. Upon closing Brave, waiting 30 seconds and opening again, all tabs are still there.
What’s worse is that a pressing clear data in settings or manually removing website data also does nothing. When you clear website data for example, you can tap the see data option and see it’s all still there immediately after clearing.
Basically you can’t clear your history or cookies now. Great.
