Can't use headsets, sound volume loud & unchangeable

Description of the issue:

Sound won’t come through my headsets, but only through my desktop speakers, and I can’t adjust the volume of the sound. The headsets work just fine, the volume adjusts satisfactorily using Firefox, so I know my equipment works. Even when the headsets are plugged in, the sound comes through my speakers instead, and very loudly.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Anything that makes sound comes through the speakers, not the headset.

I’d LOVE for this to be fixed…I’ve had the issue since last March at least.

1.80.120

Additional Information:
I’m using a desktop system running Linux Mint Cinnamon
