Can't change any of the check boxes in Settings, Privacy and Security

In Settings, Privacy and Security/Delete Browser History I can see all the check boxes, but the software won’t let me change any of them.

Don’t see any setting that might be blocking this, nor any discussion here, or in Help, search how I may.

Clicking on any check box, whether checked or not only gives a faint gray circle appearing around the check box for a few seconds.

A checked box should uncheck, or an empty box should become checked.

Every time in all tabs in this Settings dialog. Haven’t checked if I can’t change check boxes elsewhere in Settings. Non-check box related things in Settings work as expected, such as Clearing History.

Win 10 22H2 fully updated.

Haven’t changed anything since installing Brave except a couple of options that wouldn’t be related to locking out changing Settings. I just wanted to add some things to do on Exit.
