Braver Browser restarts after CMD-Q on MacOS

Description of the issue:

Brave restarts after quit. I’m using Chrome for work and Brave for youtube/music/etc. So before online call I open brave, press CMD-Q and then switch back to the chrome. But suddenly brave opens again. It doesn’t happen everytime but I can have brave running for few days. Maybe it is related to self-update or whatever.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary):

  1. Open Brave
  2. Watch youtube
  3. Press CMD-Q

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Browser closes, youtube stops, then browser launches again.

Expected result:

Browser closes, youtube stops. Not launches again.

Reproduces how often:

Periodically

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):

MacOS Tahoe 26.2

Brave 1.86.142 (Official Build) (arm64)

Chromium: 144.0.7559.97

Additional Information:

@monester

Run Activity Monitor while Brave Browser is running. Example:

When you click on Command + Q, see if all of the Brave Browser processes also quit.

Also, you might be running a troublesome extension?

Extensions Tests:
  • test by disabling all extensions
  • test by enabling each extension individually
  • test by uninstalling all extensions
  • test by installing each extension individually
  • test combinations of extensions
  • test order of installation of extensions
Create a new user Profile for Testing:

Create and use AN ADDITIONAL Brave Browser user Profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile) - only ← meaning: Do not have any other Brave Browser user Profile tabs/windows open.

When creating this new Brave Browser user Profile for test purposes

  • Do not import anything.
  • Do not add any extensions.
  • Do not allow/enable any Brave Browser “bells and whistles” such as Brave Rewards, Brave Talk, etc.

IF this test Brave Browser user Profile does not present your problem, then possibly, the profile that you have been using, has a problem . . . and that might be caused by one or more extensions, or too many tabs ← complex/conundrum.
