Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Brave will not open.

  2. Brave used to open.

  3. Uninstalled and reinstalled Brave, and it still will not open.

Expected result:

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Additional Information:

We’re going to need far more information.

Windows version? Do you happen to remember what it was you were doing before it wouldn’t open? (Did Brave hint perhaps it was going to update? I know it doesn’t often, but ANYTHING helps).

(Uninstalling Brave does NOT completely clean up everything sadly, so whatever was left behind, may still be causing issues, but we don’t know anything about your computer yet either.)

I am using Windows 10 Home, ver. 10.0.0.19045. I was using Brave one day before, and the next day it would not open. There was no notice of dating that I can remember. I have a Brave icon pinned to my desktop sidebar. I click it, and it shows to be active, but there is no display on the screen. When I hover over the Brave icon, a thumbnail of a Brave home screen appears, but it is not my Brave home screen. Clicking the thumbnail of the screen does nothing to display it. I can right click the pinned icon and “close” the window, and Brave then shows to be inactive and the thumbnail disappears. That’s really all I can tell you.
Thanks for your attention.

Ok, so if the taskbar is showing a thumbnail on hover, that means it’s actually open, but on an off-screen buffer.

You didn’t by chance have a second monitor plugged into this machine, and left Brave on that screen, did you? Sometimes this sadly can happen (namely on Windows).

If that was the case, when Brave says it’s active, try holding Shift on your keyboard while Right-clicking the Brave icon in the task bar, and see if you get a Maximize option. If you do, and Brave appears on-screen, you’re not quite done yet (or when you restore that window it goes to the “invisible screen”). To get it to “snap” to the monitor you are using, grab ahold of the titlebar/tab bar, click and hold on the mouse button and drag like dragging a window (even though it’s maximized).

Often this will force Windows to re-drag the window to the active display.

The only thing hinting to me this may be the case (or even a GPU driver update if it’s a laptop, I’ve seen that happen too on my ThinkPad), is the fact the browser is rendered in Aero Peek (when hovering on an active applications icon in the taskbar). The only way that happens is if the window is there rendering, but simply happens to be at an off-screen coordinate.

Long story short - Brave screen is now showing.
I have only one screen, but your comments about multiple displays got me to thinking. I opened my Windows display setting, and found that I had two screen selections available. Screen One had been properly selected and activation verified, but still no Brave display. So, I scrolled down and found another variable, “Multiple Displays”. It was selected to “Extend These Displays”. Among other options to select were “Show Only on 1”, and “Show Only on 2”. I changed this setting to “Show Only on 1”, and the Brave screen appeared. I have no idea how the “secret” second setting was set to “Extend These Displays”, but that was the solution. Again, Windows has multiple ways to control one thing, and one needs to be aware of them all, and have them all set to the same reference, otherwise nothing works by itself.
Thanks for your help.
