I use an android with google play services disabled. I tried to use sync but couldn’t do so. Brave said “Brave will be available once google play services update is complete”. I installed the browser from brace’s f-droid repo. It shouldn’t happen. Since brave is a supporter of privacy, sync should work without google play services like it does in Firefox based browsers
Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary):
1. Open settings panel and go to sync on a device without google play services
2. Go to scan or enter sync code
3. Issue is reproduced
Reproduces how often: is a permanent issue

Hi, I had the same problem and managed to get Brave Sync working on my Huawei device without Google Play Services.
When opening Settings → Sync, Brave shows:
“Brave won’t work without Google Play services which your device doesn’t support.”
The QR scanner doesn’t work, but you can still enter the 25-word Sync code manually.
The trick is to quickly and repeatedly tap just outside the popup. There is a small gap between the popup disappearing and reappearing where Brave registers your input. It’s a bit tedious, but once you get through, you can paste the 25-word code using your keyboard. Then hide the keyboard and press Proceed.
Steps:
Copy the 25-word Sync code from an existing device.
Open Brave → Settings → Sync.
Choose to scan/enter the Sync code.
Ignore the Google Play Services popup.
Quickly and repeatedly tap around the popup to get through each step.
Paste the 25-word code, hide the keyboard, and press Proceed.
Complete the Sync setup normally.
This worked for me on a Huawei device without Google Play Services. It’s more of a UI workaround than a proper fix, but it makes Sync usable without installing Google services.
Hopefully Brave can eventually fix this so the manual Sync-code option works normally without depending on Google Play Services.
