Description of the issue: When I am in gmail and click on some links they open while others do not. This issue started after the latest update. I am using Windows 11 and Brave is my default browser How can this issue be reproduced?
Select a link from a gmail
click on it
some openin a new tab and others just open up the new tab about:blank but if you hover over the tab it says loading
Expected result: It should open the page in a new tab
… reveals important tips (egs.: Mailto setting), not only for you, but for other community members looking for help. Your issue is one that springs anew from time to time.
In your last reply, the first, long carparts.com link is not a Clean Link ← study it from left to right:
At the question mark, everthing to the right of it, is tracking and ads junk. But, when I right-click on that long link and select Copy clean link, I get:
@richphx to clarify, if you click that link (https://www.carparts.com/details/Toyota/Highlander/Replacement/Grille_Trim/2015/XLE/REPT070703.html?TID=gglpla&origin=pla&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20848833535) here in Community, in the reply you left above (rather than clicking on it in gmail) does it load the site as expected?
It worked up until the last update. The link is whatever I get in te email and I have not had problems.
What happens it is opens up a new tab and then it takes a few seconds but then you see the link from the email and when I hover over the tab is says loading.
The issue is when I click on the link from the eail it puts https://www.google.com/url?q= before the actual link. Why does it do tht?
I’m just trying to determine if that link works if you click on it anywhere other than in your gmail. So if you scroll up here and click it right now, does the site open and load?
Actually, it looks like another user here on Community reported the exact same behavior, and it appears to have been caused by an extension they had installed:
Do you have any installed at this time? If so, can you try disabling them and then test again?
Privacy Badger is the problem. I tried disabling it, adding gmail and google to brave whitelist for cookies and pop up and redirects and that is not working
The answer is to Allow access to file URLs in Privacy Badger. My question still renains; what changed i Brave because up until the last updte this was turned off and everything worked fine.
@richphx I’m not sure exactly what changed but its important to remember that things do change when software updates. It could be incompatibility with some of what went into the Chromium bump, it could be some minor change we made, it could be something Privacy Badger implemented – hard to tell.
