Brave odd rendering of web pages (in Ubuntu 20.04 in VMware Workstation VM)

Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. I’ve recently had trouble with Brave rendering web pages in Ubuntu 20.04 in VMware Workstation VM. The pages will have odd artifacts, like random colored blocks, marks, missing icons, etc.
  2. The problem has persisted through a few updates now.
  3. Viewing the page in another browser works fine.
    (see screen shots below.)

Expected result:
I’d expect Brave to render the page correctly. Brave used to work perfectly on this install, and only started getting odd semi-recently.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Brave 1.80.120 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Chromium: 138.0.7204.101
