It seems to have worked, and has held between reboots, so hopefully I can call that the answer this time!

@Mattches - Iā€™m sorry to tell you, Itā€™s come back again. I rebooted and it stopped working again. I havenā€™t rebooted again to see if thatā€™ll fix it. Itā€™s very intermittent.

Should I be looking at reinstalling my system?

I have a feeling that it is something to do with using Task Scheduler to open the App Windows, as now iā€™ve disabled them from starting with logon, Brave responds normally, and i can open it from taskbar, etc.

And once iā€™ve started them manually, it seems to work fine.

To clarify, you mean the scheduler that launches the browser upon logging into your PC?

On further thoughts, having ā€œstop the task if it runs longer thanā€¦ā€ doesnā€™t seem like a good idea to be enabled, since i do leave my PC on and hibernate it. I will turn those off. Iā€™m only on 9hrs uptime, and I can open Brave properly . This might be my fault!
