Yes, I have all the relevant settings set. The YouTube setting. The external app setting. If you click a link which recirects to YouTube it will fail to launch the external app. The only work-around is to load the YouTube page in Brave then share the url, which in my case obviates the entire reason for using an external app. There is no proper fix. This is a bug.
They key thing you missed is it doesnt work with redirects. For example start an AI chat session on google and the links to YouTube will not be direct links but google redirects.
This is why they mention that including the steps to reproduce the issue you’re encountering is important to include – there’s no way they could have known that, since your report just makes it seem like tapping on youtube links anywhere will open them in Brave and not the app.
That said, using your example, I still do not see this issue on my end. I asked Google about the most viewed Youtube videos and tapped on a link from within the AI response, which launched the external Youtube app.
I don’t have the bandwidth presently to view your video. Are you clicking an actual YouTube link or a Google redirect link? If I i click a YouTube link it works as i intended. The problem is redirects
Can you share a specific link I can use to test?
For example if you start a google ai chat session and get a “YouTube” link, if you copy that link you can tell if its a direct link or a redirect based on the domain
This for example will not open YouTube on my phone
(looks like this web forum automatically replaces refer links so NO I cannot post example links)
Here’s what I’ve done:
- Visit Google.com
- Typed in “Find the modern vintage decomp” (and then I forgot to type “video” but oh well) and used the
Ask AIoption - Then I tapped one of the youtube links it shared (I also checked the URL and yes it was a redirect)
- Video opens in Youtube app.
Here is the recording for reference:
Does this match (or is equivalent to) the same behavior you’re performing?
Copy the link. If its a google domain then it’s a redirect. If it’s YouTube then it’s direct. On my phone, the latter works but the former opens in the browser
Again, I did in fact copy the link and it was a redirect – so I’m not seeing this issue on my end. Did the rest of those steps/video match the description of how to produce the issue for you?
Can you please test this in another Chromium-based browser and tell me if the same steps produce the same behavior there?
