Even I set it as default in the settings app, it’s still not set as default, and the “Set as Default Browser” is always show in three dots menu.
This make option “Allow app links to open in apps outside of Brave” doesn’t work. When I’m trying to open a link, such as a Twitter link, it opens in the browser instead, which it shouldn’t.
Also, the “Open external links in Brave” option seems to be broken like above; even if I set Firefox as my default browser, it still redirects me to Brave, no matter if I turn it on or off; the result is still the same.
The OP above (@Macuilxochitl), is using Android, and at the following link, is a Linux OS case also involving the handling of links “that ought to open _______” what the Brave Browser user designates or hopes to designate:
The OP above finds that the following settings do not work:
Allow app links to open in apps outside of Brave
Open external links in Brave
And the first of those settings, might be helpful for the Linux OS Brave Browser user’s (@GeorgesGiralt) issue . . . but I am reluctant to mention those settings ← when they might not be effective and/or not in working condtion?
You might be able to solve your problem quite similarly as in this case:
Give it a try. In case you need some help, you might search it on the internet. If you couldn’t find what you needed, ask your questions here for us to answer. Ik it’s Linux on the above link but the settings are pretty much the same.
Hope this helped. Thank you!
I’m sorry, but I’m not sure what to do in that Linux thread — I’m not an advanced user.
I recently discovered that the setting “Allow app links to open in apps outside of Brave” now works, but there are still a few minor issues:
When I open a Twitter link from Reddit (or anywhere else), it first opens in the Brave webview first (which is normal.) Then, when I tap Open in Brave Browser it opens in the browser not in the Twitter app — even though it used to open the app directly before (which is what I want).
If I just go to twitter.com manually in the browser (not via a tweet link), it does open in the app.
However, when I open a direct tweet/post link, it always opens in the browser, not the app.
The expected behavior is that there should be a pop-up prompt (like “Continue to Twitter? This site wants to open the Twitter app”), or it should open the app directly as it did previously.
Also, the setting “Open external links in Brave” seems to be working fine without any problems.
However, the most annoying issue is that the option “Set as Default Browser” still shows up, as if Brave is not fully set as the default — even though it is. I would expect this option to disappear once Brave is successfully set as the default browser.
@Clock I also tried that, but it didn’t work. I’m not sure whether the issue is with Brave or the OS itself.
Edit: I just discovered this. Now, whenever I enter a link in the address bar, it opens in Brave — but there’s no pop-up asking to open it in the app or directly open the app. However, if I click a link in a search engine on Brave, it does open in the app.
I also tested this on my secondary phone running SuperiorOS, and I got the same result. The only difference is that in SuperiorOS, the “Set as Default Browser” option disappears once Brave is set as the default — unlike HyperOS, where the option still shows.
Previously, when I opened a Twitter link in Reddit, it open in a Brave webview. Then, when I tapped “Open in Brave Browser”, it opens Twitter app. And if I entered a link in the address bar, it also opens in the app. I think this is what the “Allow app links to open in apps outside of Brave” option was supposed to do, but now it doesn’t.
Expected behavior: Links entered in the address bar or clicked from other apps (e.g., Reddit) should open directly in the app, or prompt the user with a pop-up to open the app — just like Firefox does.
TL;DR:
The setting “Allow app links to open in apps outside of Brave” no longer works when pasting links in the address bar or clicking links from other apps.
If it helps, the same issue happens on my Brave browser(And Chrome too). When the URL is for an app that’s installed on your device, the click is automatically redirected to the app from Brave. Same thing with Google Chrome.
To workaround it, I long click and choose open in new tab in group(not new tab, that’ll redirect to the app If I recall correctly)
I always update Brave Browser to the latest version, and these issues have persisted since March and still haven’t been fixed. Am I the only one experiencing these problems?
Can anyone using a Xiaomi phone confirm if they’re facing the same issues?
According to the video, typing x.com in the url bar of brave opens it in the browser and clicking a link in brave related to x.com opens it in the app. Isn’t it the expected behaviour even in chrome now?
@Clock I’m not sure, but what I’m trying to say is it should open in the app, no matter if I entered a URL in the address bar or clicked it everywhere else.
I’m curious about this one. If it’s normal for Chrome and Brave, why does Opera GX open in apps when I enter a URL in the search bar while these are Chromium-based browsers?
