I am getting the message to update even though I have the latest version?
So, I am seeing this:
 ![image](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/brave/original/3X/d/1/d122b411e0bb54ca76abf990922ec61914dfbd12.png)
But when I go to the about page I see this:

 ![Screenshot 2025-01-07 221940](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/brave/original/3X/6/a/6a8203f9dcb7e4f98baba45c563d9e6e00da220a.png)
I am ignoring that and I am downloading the latest installer from the website and when I try to reinstall I get this
 ![image](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/brave/original/3X/a/a/aa8520a181a582c2cd83c99c2e46b5553328461e.png)
Windows 11.
Any ideas?

Are the Brave Browser components updating? In a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

> `brave://components`

> Yes, this just means you waited too long and auto-update isn’t happening. You can go to [brave.com/download](http://brave.com/download) and install the newest version. It won’t erase any of your information as long as you aren’t uninstalling/deleting your data. Who told you that? Not true as long as you’re not uninstalling. It’s just asking you reinstall, not uninstall.

sorry, as I said, after downloading the installer from [brave.com/download](http://brave.com/download) and running (without uninstalling first) it I get this

 ![image](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/brave/original/3X/a/a/aa8520a181a582c2cd83c99c2e46b5553328461e.png).
Also, the installer I download from the website seems to be an older version than the one I am seeing in brave://settings/help (1.75.2 vs 1.73.104)

The following URL address, is where you can visit and find **the most recent, stable** _(not “Beta”, nor “Nightly”)_ **versions** of Brave Browser:

> [https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/blob/master/CHANGELOG\_DESKTOP.md](https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/blob/master/CHANGELOG_DESKTOP.md)

You would click on the version number (currently “1.73.105”):

 ![Screen Shot 2025-01-08 at 6.39.13 PM](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/brave/original/3X/c/a/ca750ad9bddb7339b2ae2bff176fe841c547f97e.png)

The browser will be redirected to another webpage that shows something like (in our example):

> [Release v1.73.105 (Chromium 131.0.6778.265)](https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases/tag/v1.73.105)

Then, you would scroll down to locate **the installer** that applies to your computing device and its Operating System.

In your case, you would be looking for the following section of possible installers for the Windows OS (in our example):

 ![Screen Shot 2025-01-08 at 6.44.27 PM](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/brave/original/3X/5/0/50d76e17cae2f28b54bcddcb64bb922ded61b455.png)

You are probably going to select 1 of the following 2:

* * *

`brave-v1.73.105-win32-arm64.zip`

 ![Screen Shot 2025-01-08 at 6.47.48 PM](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/brave/original/3X/f/7/f73bfbb2db4a257c254dcadcb4b3401ae93771c1.png)

* * *

`brave-v1.73.105-win32-x64.zip`

 ![Screen Shot 2025-01-08 at 6.47.25 PM](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/brave/original/3X/0/1/019db5cd1da4165a87716f277e9032b62fabb072.png)

 ![Screen Shot 2025-01-08 at 7.05.24 PM](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/brave/original/3X/6/0/608f81b5024ef4ca46003dddde026ff1b30827fc.png)

BEFORE you run the installer . . . try to:

- Back up [bookmarks](https://community.brave.app/t/recover-overwritten-password/583095/2) (and tabs, as bookmarks)
- Back up [passwords](https://community.brave.app/t/recover-overwritten-password/583095/2)

So that you are prepared for subsequent steps:

**Clear cookies, cache, history, etc.**

In a Brave Browser **New Window** , go to:

> brave://settings/clearBrowserData

Select the Advanced tab

Set Time range to “All time”

ENABLE everything except:

- Passwords and other sign-in data

(Myself, I would NOT make that exception)
(because I would have a backup prepared.)
(In other words, **be prepared**.)

Click on the “Clear data” button

* * *

If you cannot take those steps, before running the installer, at least:

With BB **not running** , delete the ‘Caches’ folder, and delete the ‘Cookies’ file.

Caches (folder):

- `%LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default\Cache\`

Cookies (file):

- `%LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default\Cookies`

* * *

Last tip: ALWAYS perform a full restart of a computing device, before running an installer.

Please go to:

Scroll down to “Profile Path:”

Copy the portion of the path, **beginning with** the character string:

> \BraveSoftware\ . . . (and so on)

And report that, here.

@jasonidis Long story short it just seems like you somehow got the Nightly version pushed through to Release somehow. Either you just use it like that until it catches up or you’re going to have to uninstall and reinstall like had been instructed when a similar thing happened back around October.

> [@Problem updating Nightly, reinstall Nightly the following message says the following (This computer already has a newer version of Brave. If the software does not work, please uninstall Brave and try again)](https://community.brave.app/t/problem-updating-nightly-reinstall-nightly-the-following-message-says-the-following-this-computer-already-has-a-newer-version-of-brave-if-the-software-does-not-work-please-uninstall-brave-and-try-again/577213/24):
>
> Just a heads up that after a few hours of debugging, we’ve figured out the issue and applied a fix server side. Users on Nightly should now be able to retrieve/update to 1.73.48 without any issues/error messages. @Saoiray because you’re one of the affected users that ended up getting 1.73.x on the release channel, would you mind doing the following and reporting back on Monday if you’ve noticed any issues with your profile during the weekend? Would really appreciate the help/feedback. Quick no…

@kamil I just wanted to tag you in on this as you had been involved the last time there was a similar issue.

Nightly, I think, at some point in the past, but we are talking about a year ago and I seem to remember it working alongside the stable version
