Brave and its use of "Sparkle"?

I use the “Updatest” app on my M4 Mac mini. I believe updating apps, even if they are not in my “primary app bucket”, is critical today with an ever increasing role of AI in security, whether it be on a personal pc, a network connection, or any avenue for the propagation of malware. I noticed that Updatest categorizes Brave Browser within its “Sparkle” app list, and that the following text shown: “This app’s bSparkle updater isn’t accessible, so updates can’t be checked automatically.” If this is the expected behavior designed for your app, please disregard this report. However, being able to update my apps using an automatic update system without having to launch and update the app manually would be a big point in favor for using Brave Browser. Your own fixes to Brave Browser have increased, as you are undoubtedly using AI to improve the code, and are very appreciated. Thank you.

Brave Browser should/will update automatically, by default./design.

Overview

Currently published version numbers can be seen at https://versions.brave.com/ (<-- That is sometimes not up-to-date.)

  • Major Release frequency: ~2 weeks based on the Brave release schedule.
  • Minor Chromium/Security releases: ~once a week on all channels. Within ~24hrs on the release channel after a new Chromium has been released as per the weekly Chromium schedule.
  • Chemspill/Hotfix frequency: As needed
  • Every major release is tied to a fuzzy Chromium release date.

I get what you’re saying, and the update to Brave will install on the next launch of Brave. I like the Updatest app updating all my apps so that I don’t need to launch each app to update, or to check for updates, but sure, Brave updates on its own when you launch it. I can live with that, and I will just ignore Brave in my Updatest app. Thanks for the clear response.
