APT error: Malinformed entry 1 list file

while trying to install Brave Browser I got this error message:

APT error
E: Malinformed entry 1 list file/etc/apt/sources.list.d/brave-browser.list (component)
E: The list of sources could not be read

Then in Software Sources I got another alert after it told me to change mirror sites:

Failed to load the package list
This is a serious problem. Try again later. If this problem appears again, please report an error to the developers.

I was installing it on my 2011 MBP when the error occurred. I tried repeatedly to change the mirror site but kept getting the same error message.

I’m confused, are you installing on Linux or on macOS? And what OS version?

What installation instructions are you using?

I’m sorry JimB1, I figured it out, there was a missing space in one of the command lines.
