Annoying Media Pop Up

How do I get rid of the media pop up that covers my tabs and File and Edit and anything else that is there! There is no need for the stupid thing anyway! I have to wait for the @#$#$@^ thing to fade away before I can do anything. It is useless!

HOW DO I DISABLE IT?!

GPT Says:
:white_check_mark: This is caused by Hardware Media Key Handling

Brave is intercepting your keyboard volume/media keys and showing the media control popup.

:red_circle: Disable it completely (this is the kill switch)

  1. In Brave’s address bar, type:
brave://flags

  1. In the search box, type:
Hardware Media Key Handling

  1. Set Hardware Media Key Handling to:
    :backhand_index_pointing_right: Disabled

  2. Click Relaunch

:white_check_mark: This stops the media box from appearing when you press volume up/down.

It worked except for a small volume pop up. So I told GPT the volume pop up is there. GPT said:

That means it’s no longer Brave — what you’re seeing now is the Windows system volume OSD (the white/black volume bar that appears when you press volume up/down).

Brave can’t disable this one. This is 100% Windows-level.

Below are the real ways to kill it, from easiest to most reliable.

:white_check_mark: OPTION 1 (FASTEST): Use a small free tool (recommended)

Windows does not provide a built-in toggle for the volume OSD, so a helper app is the cleanest fix.

:small_blue_diamond: HideVolumeOSD (free, tiny)

  • No install (portable)

  • Runs silently

  • Specifically hides the volume popup

Steps

  1. Download HideVolumeOSD

  2. Run it once

  3. Press volume keys → no popup

You can add it to Startup if you want it permanent.

If you want, I can give you the exact safe download link (there are mirrors — one is sketchy).

I can live with the small volume pop up.
