AI Search Snippet Displaying when Search with AI Disabled

The AI Search Snippet is displaying at the top of the search results when searching certain phrases.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Disable search with AI https://search.brave.com/settings

  • Choose a word from a language other than the search engine display language E.g. if search engine is in English an example word would be “Krankenwagen” and follow it with the word for meaning in English i.e. “meaning” making the full search term to reproduce issue “Krankenwagen meaning”. This works in reverse too if the search engine display language is German then searching “reconcile bedeutung” causes the issue.

  • Click the magnifying glass search icon to the right of the search text entry.

This does not work if word for meaning used is in the language of the search engine i.e. “meaning” for English and “bedeutung” for German.

Note: this problem only seems to appear for certain search words.

Expected Behaviour:

  • Classic search results display without AI snippet

Actual Behaviour:

  • Under certain conditions the search results the search engine creates a div with id=“llm-snippet” and fails to generate a result likely due to search with ai being disabled from the brave search settings
