Address bar displays previous url after disappearing and reappearing

To reproduce this “bug”.

With the latest Brave version on Android:

  • Visit a couple of different websites
  • Go to a newspaper website such as bbc.com (at this point, the address bar shows bbc.com, no problem)
  • Scroll down till the address bar gets hidden
  • Scroll back up so that the address bar reappears. For a second or two, the url of some previous website is displayed in the address bar

I’ve seen it for a couple of days at this point.

Hello! I’ve been unable to replicate this issue so far.

If you restart the device and browser do you still experience the same issue?

If toggling Shields off do you still see it? Clearing cookies/history?

So I’m not sure what stream of events leads to this outcome, but it repeats itself on my two old Samsung A71 and a brand new A56. It also shows URL from incognito mode.

I’m having similar experiences! Sometimes URLs from CLOSED private tabs will re-appear along with the url bar when I scroll back up on sites like X. Said URL will keep appearing until I exit Brave and re-open it. I can’t reliably re-create the error but it is very annoying and potentially very embarrassing (you probably know why) when it happens

Is this happening consistently or intermittently? Can you confirm your Brave versions?

Id say it happens about once a week or once every 2 weeks. I use Brave a lot. Haven’t been able to reproduce it since making the report.

A similar thing happened again. I watched a video on youtube, returned to youtube.com, then went to browse a news site all in the same tab. The URL bar displayed the url to the video I watched when I scrolled up. When I let go with my finger it changed back to the correct url. The YouTube URL is still appearing on this forum as well. Battery saver is enabled.
Got a screen recording of it, but new users cant upload video
Tried turning battery saver off, and now the URL bar keeps displaying when I scroll down.

Edit: happened again without battery saver being activated

@Wowallusernamesareta @duderino @Bonawentura @User372y18i It has been a while, and I know there have been updates, including a new one expected in the next few days.

Are you still experiencing this issue? Have you tried it in Chrome? I saw a Reddit thread from a couple of months ago where people mentioned seeing this in Chrome, but it does not seem to be widely discussed online.

Also, does it only display URLs that are open in other tabs, or is it pulling them from somewhere else? Can you easily reproduce it, or is it random? If more examples would help, could you record additional videos showing the problem?

I saw it happening about 2-3 days ago on a fully updated Brave on Android, but I had not seen it for a couple of weeks, so it has become much rarer, but even more random.

I tried to reproduce it tonight, but couldn’t, so no video at this point.

Its been pulling a recently visited address from the same tab more often than ever for the last week. As mentioned before it has, on rare occurrences, pulled addresses from closed incognito tabs.

I can’t willingly replicate it and I don’t understand what causes it, seems to be random. Hope the update solves it!

It looks like the problem resumed being more frequent since 1.82.166

I also sometimes see some unwanted dark mode in the address bar.

Maybe both issues are related as some sort of failed refresh.
