I don’t understand the logic of a limit such as 20 results, when I used Google I had it set to show 100 results per page, and there were many pages. When I am shopping for something specific to compare prices, 20 results would be woefully inadequate… I certainly hope Brave re-thinks this limiting and adds a more robust customization for those who might want unlimited results.
I have to agree with everyone else. I really like Brave Search, and it’s true that you normally find what you’re looking for in the first page of results. But why the hard limit? And why 20? It’s arbitrary. There are times when you want to see results further down the list, perhaps several pages in. At the very least, I would think showing 100 results should satisfy most people, but why not just show all of them, if people care to dig that deep?
I will add this. I don’t really like the UI of discrete “pages.” DDG has an option to simply continually scroll down. Since Brave Search now uses a “sticky” header (that reappears when you start scrolling back up), the problem of being way down the page is eliminated. Or, a “back to top” button could be added.
It’s both arbitrary and a dumb decision on Brave’s part.
First meaningful misstep from Brave, I think.
Brave browser still top of the pile for me, but I wish I could use Brave search too. As-is, it remains close-to useless for me.
I would like to join here, only 20 results is a no go for me. At least configurable how many results you want to get should be possible, otherwise I can’t use Brave Search and won’t recommend it.
Could not agree more. Regardless of Bravo’s features, this severe limitation on search results will cause me to use a different browser every day. I’m typically looking for very specific, technical information, that does require going 50 to 100 deep to find what I need.
For most of the searches that I do regularly, 20 results are enough but sometimes when I search for things related to my work (programmer) 20 results are insufficient. I can’t quite understand why searches have a limitation and why it’s only 20.
I was initially dumbfounded when I was one of the first Brave Search users and there were only 20 results. I came back every few months to see if Brave Search had graduated from this failed experiment, only to be disappointed. As others have said, when working in a technical field or searching for images, we often scan dozens of results pages.
I see that the reply from Brave is that 20 results equals two results pages. Not when you can set Google for 100 results per page and Bing for 50 results.
Brave Search developers must have a lot of confidence that their 20 results will be the best. Far too often, for me, they aren’t. Brave Search has turned out to be a toy, an unserious curiosity.
This is definitely a problem.
I shouldn’t need to explain why 20 results are not enough.
People who only want 20 results are not the sort of people who are looking to move away from Google.
People who actively search for information and alternatives are the people who will switch to Brave because other platforms aren’t giving them the information they want.
Brave is shooting themselves in the foot by offering only 20 results.
Brave may claim to not filter/block search results, but giving only 20 results is doing just that.
Deal breaker.
This is proof you are not ready to take marketshare from any other engine
Wow this is just horrible that you allowed this page of feedback to grow so much.
There are far too many responses here on this page and clearly you should limit feedback on everything to only 20 results. Certainly there should be zero reason for users to have plenty of choices so they can make their own decisions on what they feel is the best choice.
The CEO’s claims about Brave not being explicitly censored may be true… but to see whether or not the Brave crawler is mainly going in directions well established by censored search engines, we’d need to get past 20 search results for contended items.
For example: at this time, searching for terms which have become medically controversial over the past 2 years produce mainly results from establishment sources whose opposition has been heavily censored. Although Brave may not be demoting the others, they’re still effectively censored from lists of only 20 results.
Okay, I created an account just to chime in here, and to say that this is BS.
Fine if 20 results is enough for you, but how does this justify limiting the number of results for me?
You claim that you don’t censor, but clearly you do. Because if the number of results if limited, it is impossible to find all points of view on a certain subject.
Say that I want to find out how people feel about Covid-19, to name a relevant subject. All Brave Search users using that search query will all be limited to the same 20 pages of, probably, generic information.
And the only way to get additional results is to enter biased search queries. Which will obviously also always lead to a very small subset of the available information relevant to that query, and which will also not leave any room for alternative points of view, or for information that is related, but not related enough to fit into the first 20 results.
You say that you don’t censor, but you need to understand that censoring is exactly that: limiting access to available information.
No problem if you want to order the search results on what you think is most relevant to my search query. But if you then hide everything but the 20 first results, that’s censorship. In the worst way.
And if you really think that this is how it should be, then we are actually better of with DuckDuckGo. Because they admit that they censor the results, but at least they just move the censored sites a bit lower on a list that is still available in its entirety.
Please stop limiting the number of results.
Or stop claiming that you don’t censor.
I think unlimited results is a must ultimately, even if you decide to turn it off by default and make it configurable (i.e., have a link at the bottom for more results). 99% of the time I find what I want in two pages but I do quite often end up scrolling through more. especially for more technical topics.
The Good News:
I love the Brave Browser & it has been my default browser (PC’s and phones) since it was introduced in 2019. As for Brave Search, I tested it as soon as it was announced last year but the search results were underwhelming. I continue to have high hopes & it has continued to evolve & improve (I even forced myself to use it for a month hoping, but…). I still can’t quite change it to my default - yet.
So, in hopes of influencing the course of Brave Search development (fat chance -right?), I’m going to add my 2 cents:
As for me, and I would hope MOST other intelligent beings, we want it ALL & we want it UNFILTERED .
I WANT ALL THE RELEVANT SEARCH RESULTS. I want them unfiltered, I want them un-sanitized, I want the “un-safe” & the dis-information included. I want the pretty, I want the ugly, I WANT to read the “cancelled” content. I WANT to see the politically incorrect stuff, I WANT to see and evaluate for myself what the “Woke” folks don’t want me to see. How the heck de we learn if we aren’t allowed to even see the other half of the argument. We should all be critical thinkers, able to review, analyze, evaluate and decide for our ourselves what is relevant and accurate. Censoring or limiting search results in any way is at worst akin to N -a-z-i era book burning (Note: my “N” reference should not in any way be construed as anything other than a reference to an abhorrent era in history). If the lemmings are just too ignorant or too lazy and desire only 1-2 pages, or want “promoted” or “sanitized” or “approved” or “filtered” search results, let em’ have it. In their case, provide them with a “nanny” switch or “preferred” search or “Search Results for Dummies” lite version -in addition to your “Safe Search” option. Damn people, be open-minded.
Heck, I might even be willing to pay for a full featured, competent and complete search engine that included lots of user defined filters. Hmm, nope – cuz’ that’s what a search engine is supposed to do.
Live up to your name BRAVE!
Rant Portion:
The nanny-state governments around the world (not just the US) aided & supported by the “main-stream” &/or “socially-correct” media are one of society’s worst enemies and one of the greatest threats to civilization. I do not believe this to be hyperbole.
We the people want / require / demand access to all available information. Society shouldn’t want or need thought-police.
The only dis-information I see lately is government supported and enabled, or cancel-culture elitists. What are Zuckerberg, Pichai, Agrawal, Sandberg & DDG CEO Weinberg afraid of? And for those of you critics out there trying to pigeon-hole me, I’m a registered Independent, I didn’t vote for Trump (but wish I had), I’m black, I’m female, I have a gay daughter, a gay brother, I recycle and have a compost pile for kitchen waste. I was born in the Philippines & have lived in 7 different states. I have done more international travel than most. I dare you to profile me.
Good Day ![]()
Created an account to say the 20 result limit is absolutely maddening. Change it or this customer is gone.
“When was the last time you actually clicked past page 10”? Almost daily.
20 results would not even be sufficient if brave search was always providing the best possible results. In technical fields, this is obviously not the case, and probably an impossible task. Of course, you can always refine your search, but only when you know very precisely what you are after; and being too precise might exclude relevant results (for instance, using slightly different terminology, etc.).
They just added more than 1 page or more than 20 results.
On the first page in the bottom, you get a next page option.
I got to Page 9/10 for a simple query, about 150 results approx. On the 10th page it said ‘Not any more matches for your search’.
I went upto the 10th page without Google Fallback Mixing, meaning the results seemed to be served from brave crawler only till 10th page.
Awesome. Finally. Yay Brave.
A funny post on reddit https://old.reddit.com/r/BATProject/comments/u86m89/anybody_notice_something_new_about_brave_search/
This is good news, I have been waiting a long time for this and now I hope I don’t have to go to other search engines when I don’t get enough results. Thanks Brave Team.
